Something I'm extremely proud of myself for doing this year is passing my driving test. I never thought that would be something I'd ever say but I did it, and trust me, it was a rollercoaster of a journey!
My first lesson was very surreal, I felt overwhelmed by the fact that someone has allowed me to be in control of such a large vehicle, but you soon get used to the feeling of having control, and if anything were to go wrong, your driving instructor also has a lot of control, which helped put me at ease.
I was lucky enough to find a driving instructor who was fairly cheap but also provided very helpful lessons. I've heard a lot of people who have gone with cheap driving instructors say that they can drag the lessons out and end up costing more money!
I did 2 hour lessons every week for about 3 months, but had to stop in November because I just couldn't pass my theory test (for me this was harder than the actual driving test!) and my instructor didn't want me to continue lessons until I had passed my theory, otherwise I'd be ready to take my practical test but couldn't as i hadn't passed the theory! So that's one thing I highly recommend, getting your theory test out the way as soon as possible. Maybe even getting the test done before you take driving lessons, as then you can just focus on the driving!
I finally passed my theory test in december and resumed my lessons in the new year, and decided to book my test for February 20th 2017. To be honest, I didn't feel ready at all, and was really struggling with getting the hang of the maneuvers. So i decided to save up for my own car so i could practice in my own time with my mum, as well as taking lessons. This helped so so so much and made me 10x more confident, because I was driving my own car, not someone else's, and it also made me more determined to pass.
So I highly recommend saving up for your own car (if you can, it doesn't have to be an expensive one, just something to get you by until you've passed)
By the time the big day rolled around, I felt pretty prepared but was extremely nervous! I had decided to do my test in my own car, which added extra nerves, as if anything did go wrong there was no dual controls! However, luckily everything went extremely well and I ended up passing with 2 minors which I was super pleased about!
Now nearly 3 months has passed and I love driving! It is super easy now, and I don't even need to think about changing gears, which is a change from when i was petrified of changing gears when I first started learning! I can honestly say it is one of the best things i've ever done- so far ;)
I hope this post has helped some of you if you are learning to drive or thinking about learning to drive!
See you in my next post!
