I Tested the Makeup Revolution Silicone Sponge...

I recently bought the Makeup Revolution silicone tear shape sponge from Superdrug. I had been dying to try it out after seeing the hype and controversy about the Molly SiliSponge. This Makeup Revolution sponge is meant to be a cheaper drugstore dupe, with a small price of five pounds and is meant to ensure higher coverage due to the little absorption of product. So here is my review and honest opinion of the silicone sponge...

In the past I have mainly used makeup brushes for foundation and concealer, but I have used the Beauty Blender and the Real Techniques Complexion Sponge. These sponges I have really enjoyed using for creating a flawless even coverage. This 'sponge' however is very different from any other tool I have ever used.

However despite this, this sponge works wonders. Its claim of high coverage, with a flawless airbrushed effect speaks many truths. The coverage was beautiful. This was due to it not absorbing much product, like a sponge or a brush does, and if it does it is easy to wash off due to the silicone material. This meant that I used a lot less and saved more product, and still had the finish and coverage that I aim to get with my other tools, but by using more product. Despite this the overall look of my foundation I don't think looked much different. I asked my boyfriend if he could tell a difference in my foundation and he told me that it looked the same... When I showed him the sponge he was weirded out by its squishiness and how it felt, so if you are like him and dislike unusual feeling things this may not be for you!

Whilst I loved the look and coverage of my foundation I wasn't obsessed with the application. It takes longer to blend and work into the skin, making it a time consuming method. One thing I struggled with was blending makeup into detailed areas such as the nose, between the eyebrows and also under and around the eyes. This was due to the non flexible shape of the edges of the sponge, so i had to use my fingers for the delicate areas that wouldn't blend. Despite this, I still enjoyed using the sponge and will continue to use it on days where I have more time to do my makeup.

Overall I think this sponge is worth the hype due to the coverage and lack of absorption and whilst the application is more time consuming than other tools, it isn't awful. If you want a new sponge or tool to try out, something new and cheap, then I would recommend this silicone sponge! After trying this Makeup Revolution one I don't think that I will splurge and buy the more expensive Molly Silisponge, as I see little reason to spend 14 pounds, when the 5 pound sponge dupe is just as good! I would give this silicone sponge 7.5/10. Dupe approved.
